May 6 dining fundraiser to benefit Walk 4 Prostate Cancer

April 12, 2026

The Walk 4 Prostate Cancer will step off at 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 12, at Cape Henlopen State Park.

Local companies and community groups are invited to walk in support of early detection efforts in Sussex County.

A portion of dining proceeds from 5 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, May 6, at Pete's Steak Shop, 19287 Miller Road, Rehoboth Beach, will be donated to the cause.

Spearheaded by meteorologist Paul Williams, a prostate cancer survivor, the project is building momentum to raise awareness, provide free testing and bring community members together.

"One out of every eight men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in his lifetime,” said Williams. “Black men face a higher risk of prostate cancer, with one in six African American men developing prostate cancer in their lifetime, and [they] are twice as likely to die from the disease than white men. We are also seeing an increase in the incidence of men living in rural areas developing the disease."

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men (after skin cancer), often growing slowly and causing no early symptoms.  This makes screening vital. It is highly treatable when caught early, with a 5-year survival rate of nearly 100% for localized cases. Prostate cancer screening is recommended for men starting at age 50 for average risk, or earlier (age 40-45) for high-risk groups, including African American men and those with a family history.
